CAREER PLANNER (Norfolk Position Opening)

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council, a regional workforce development organization, is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Career Planner for our offices located in Norfolk, or as assigned.

This position is responsible for the comprehensive case management of individuals in the Hampton Roads area applying for, or receiving, services offered through the Individual Referral and Training Account program as funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (Public Law 113-128) of 2014.  Makes service level determinations; provides personal, academic and employment counseling and assistance.  Refers customers to other community providers when appropriate.  Assists customers in making informed decisions about job, career, and training opportunities.  Refers candidates as appropriate to employment and other opportunities.

Position functions as critical element of the Council’s case management team. The annual starting salary range for this position is $39,000 - $44,750, with excellent benefits, including the Virginia Retirement System and paid health insurance for the employee.

Business Services Specialist

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC), a regional workforce development organization serving Southside Hampton Roads and the Virginia Peninsula, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Business Services Specialist at our Virginia Career Works Norfolk CenterThe BSS will primarily receive and process employer job orders and other employment opportunities; maintain databases; identify customer matches for job opening referrals; facilitate customer referrals to employers; and track, record, and report the referral outcomes as part of the Virginia Career Works Business Services Team. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of relevant work experience are required. Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint applications are also required. Working knowledge of the Virginia Virtual One-Stop System (VOS) is preferred. Applicants need to have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license, as some local travel may be required.

This position is responsible for providing services to job seekers under our Network2Work Grant, which is through June 30, 2022, at this time. The Enrollment Specialist will primarily be responsible for initiating, maintaining, and expanding relationships with individuals seeking employment, training and other resources needed to become self-sufficient. This position will be housed in Newport News, Virginia and provide services primarily on the Greater Peninsula.

NEXTGEN JOB COACH

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC) is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of NextGen Job Coach. The NextGen Job Coach will performs professional work providing career advising and worksite support to NextGen Regional Interns, ages 16-21. The Job Coach will assist youth with career exploration, resume writing, job search, job or college application development, career pathway planning, goal development, and budgeting. Job Coaches will also visit worksites to meet with NextGen Regional Interns and their site supervisors. Worksites are located in the Cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. Scheduled hours will range between 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday with flexible scheduling. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the NextGen Coordinator.

Required Experience: Requires at least one year of work experience combining elements of job placement, training, and counseling or other services working with youth.  Additional requirements include: the ability to manage multiple projects, build strong customer relations, experience using a computer to include Microsoft Office Suite, the use of social media including Facebook and Twitter as well as the use of electronic communication in a professional environment. Reliable transportation and the ability to frequently work nights and weekends is also required.

NEXTGEN CAREER COACH

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council (HRWC) is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of NextGen Career Coach. The NextGen Career Coach will develop job preparation and career immersion programming for groups of up to 100+ youth, as well as provide one-to-one career assessment/counseling, labor market information, job search assistance, follow-up and related workforce development services to youth, ages 10-24 through. This is a highly mobile position that requires significant travel to support NextGen programs in the cities of: Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg and the counties of: Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City, Southampton, and York. The NextGen programming is offered throughout the community Monday-Saturday between the hours of 7am-9pm. Career Coaches work flexible schedules within this timeframe. Work is performed under the general supervision of the NextGen Pathways Coordinator.

Required Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in education, communications, counseling, social science, human services, public or business administration or related field. One year of work experience providing workforce development services, education in the arts and sciences, or career counseling to youth. Additional requirements include: strong initiative, creativity, and problem solving as well as the ability to manage multiple projects while building strong customer relations both internally and externally. Intermediate or advanced knowledge of and experience using a computer to include Microsoft Office Suite, the use of social media including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter as well as the use of electronic communication in a professional environment is also required. Must be comfortable delivering virtual programs and services via Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The candidate must have a strong willingness to learn and to think outside of the box. Reliable transportation and the ability to frequently work nights and weekends is required. Candidates must have a passion for helping youth and young adults pursue career and educational opportunities.
